I purchased off an online retailer, They sent a link for me to add a review. I wrote a review and went to submit.
I kept pressing the submit button and nothing went. I then sent a message to the retailer telling them there review wouldn’t submit. They asked me to fwd the email (they had sent with the link) and they would fix it and send me a new link. So I fwd the email.
The next I heard they want me to tell them my review and they would enter it.
That doesn’t seem right to me, they could adjust it etc, they could write what they want. If they can enter my review they may as well just do it without me.
Should I send them my review?
Cheers
JohnJuly 7, 2018 at 6:19 am #22745Your perseverance is admirable. Personally, I would downgrade any review of any merchant who can’t make their review mechanism painless (or, more likely, I just wouldn’t bother).
Arch Linux, on a Ryzen 7 1800X, 32 GB, 5 (yes -5) HDs inc 5 SSDs, 4 RPi 3Bs + 1 RPi 4B - one as an NFS server with two more drives, PiHole (shut yours), Plex server, cloud server, and other random Pi stuff. Nice CoolerMaster case, 2 x NV GTX 1070 8GB, and a whopping 32" AOC 1440P monitor.
July 7, 2018 at 9:43 am #22749Maybe not bother, it doesn’t seem worth it.

JohnJuly 7, 2018 at 9:47 am #22752Why didn’t you just quit when the review would not submit. I’d of not given it a second though.
I’d of hit submit twice, maybe copied what I’d written, refreshed the page, pasted back in, then tried submit again (but it would be to be something I really wanted to review), but it’s doubtful I’d of done that much.
I wouldn’t of got to the effort of emailing them once, never bind stoke up a back an forth.
Just forget it John. It’s their loss. If you want to be polite, suggest to them to re send you the review suggestion, once they have their set up fixed.

The purchase was suggested on here and often (on here) I have seen recomendations. I wanted to say how good the whole process was, for future buyers.
I went to all the trouble and couldn’t submit. normally I don’t bother or certainly don’t continue.
I asked for them to send a new review link, since (I said I wouldn’t send them my review) it’s gone quiete

JohnJuly 7, 2018 at 1:01 pm #22764I don’t do reviews unless I actually liked everything about the item. I don’t do “Surveys” which are just Marketing crap, trying to get as much info about you and target you from other companies, to whom they sell your details.
My thoughts are, if it is good it will sell and i will use them again. If it’s bad, I contact and tell them, either return or ask for money back. If some company messed me about like that John, I would not bother replying. They obviously have incompetencies in their admin, even if the item was a good one.

I do surveys till the second page, I did a review based on pub grub, that turned out to be a book, although I find they ask the same question (needing same answer) but in different words, I just copy & paste.
I won’t be spending any more time on replying to MyMemory

JohnJuly 9, 2018 at 1:21 am #22875John the ask the same question in differnt ways, to make sure your answer is consistent. It’s to make sure the reviewer is 1. Not a robot, or 2.not a paid person to fill in reviews, or rather no a lazy one that just clicks randomly.
The surveys submitted that give different answers to the same (differently worded, but ultimately the same), or similar questions are automatically discarded, as them sets of data just make fake noise, and worse could skew the overall data.
So it may seem a waist of time, (for them and you) but really the duplicate questions written differently are a safeguard. A better word maybe a filter rather than safeguard, and the best way to tell the ligit reviewers and the non ligit ones. So probably the most important of the questions.
Though saying all that, I don’t do surveys as a rule. Reviews I do if the product or servos did something other really well or really bad. Otherwise I dont bother.

Talking reviews, I always thought you review with honesty. Many reviews I have made on Amazon, have come back not published, then next time (the same seller) I can’t review due to the last review.
So in theory you can only review on Amazon with a load of BS, tell the truth and it won’t get published.
Cheers
JohnJuly 9, 2018 at 1:39 pm #22898I’ve never had a review not publish. And I’ve seem some scathing and glowing reviews on there.
However I do know that there are laws against slander, so it may be Amazon looking at your review and taking it down out of protection to themselfs and to you.
I’m always honest. As I say, I only review if a product wows me. In either a good or bad way. A review says this is good, is hardly useful to anyone. One that’s says this is great cos… Or this is awful cos…. Are the only reviews I right. And when I’m looking at a product. I never look at the good and average reviews, always the worst reviews. As then I can balance the price and my expectations against the known issues. So I know going in the down sides. So then if I buy, and the product (or service) even then let’s me down, I’ll usally be amazed, and also add a bad review. If I don’t find any of the negative things the reviews stated, I’ll usally add a review, to say how i never seen the issues set out in the reviews, but your mileage may vary.
That’s about the extent of my reviewing.
But back to Amazon saying they can’t publish cos of bias, I’d I’d love to know how they make such links. You must of written the review like a love sick puppy (Jk).
I suppose if you was to say, best product ever, and their cs is the best I’ve encountered…. But the average reviews for the same product, say, ok product, and ok CS… It may flag up with Amazon as your review doesn’t sit well with the 95 percentile. The same could be used for scathing reviews, that don’t fit in to the data already collected.
This must be a relative new thing, as there is so great threads of hilarious reviews on products on Amazon. Iirc imac (hair removal not the compute) has a product that people just went to town on in a comedic way. The seller may not of reported the reviews to Amazon, as they are clearly all jokes, so they probably sell more product just via people coming to see the reviews on product. It may be pile cream, and not hair removal. I can’t remember now.
July 9, 2018 at 3:58 pm #22910I used to regularly review all Kindle books I read, until I downloaded a certain Prehistory book which contained several errors and was really written to support the research and bonkers theories of the two co-authors. I slammed it for that and for being badly written, which it was. The male author came back at me in spades and was quite irate. I found his website and gave him proof from several reputable historical sources that his book was full of inaccuracies and errors of dates, times and facts. I also pointed to the fact that the “Qualifications” he and his partner purported to possess, did not exist, as the 3 Universities he claimed to have attended, had no record of him. It took me months to find all the facts, but I never allow anyone to attack me for being right. The Uni’s concerned have apparently threatened legal action against these people. The book was withdrawn.
If I read a really good book from Kindle now, I will give it 5 stars, those are the only reviews I make now. If it’s bad, I don’t bother: I don’t need some mad author sending a Hitman after me.

I'm out.July 9, 2018 at 6:01 pm #22921There is stories from America bob where business have either sued or threatened to sue a reviewer.
The issue with the US is doesn’t matter if your right or wrong, the one with the most money wins. So you’ll (an indevidual) will always back down even when in the right.
Home of the free…. As long as you have money. Hmm…
July 9, 2018 at 6:23 pm #22923I may have put “It Didn’t Work” I have never put much more. They even still want reviews for items I have never had or sent back. I dare put it didn’t work.
Cheers
