Having seen the latest reports about this, I think it’s another of Boris’ moves that is not as dumb as first thought. This country does need an injection of more intelligent, experienced workers in certain fields. It does not need more unskilled labour, some of which disappears into the abyss of inner city problems.
Now Australia and the USA are looking at taking some HK people too. The problem is caused by the Chinese government not adhering to the 1997 agreement with the UK. “One country, two systems.” But as Ed says, if the young HK residents had calmed down and stopped the protests after the world took notice, they might be in a better place. Media pictures of students and others, throwing back tear-gas grenades, hurling rocks and petrol bombs at police, did not help their cause.
