In both instances shadows from the dogs point to it being the Sun.

I once thought I was filming UFOs when it was dozens of Chinese lanterns flying fast high above my head in small groups in a single line. I was so sure they were UFOs when I was watching them  :D

The phrase “those who would give up their freedom for security deserve neither” comes to mind for some reason. Even though it doesn’t really apply here. But I always disagree with people who want a big change because of a single incident. I don’t read or watch the news but from what I occasionally see it seems we are no longer allowed to use force…[Read more]

Looks like I have to eat my hat.

I added the fibre washers on both sides of the motherboard and tightened it just as hard as last time. After all I didn’t think pressure was the problem here.

So, I tightened the #1 nuts. Then I tightened the #2 nuts. Only this time I added a metal washer between them to help me tighten #2 against #1. I…[Read more]

I do struggle with the concept of it having problems due to being not perfectly straight. It gets bent quite a lot each time I am removing it or fitting it back in a case. It flexes every time I handle it. But it works fine after. I think there got to be another explanation. But then I’ve been proven wrong many a time when I thought something just…[Read more]

Who knows. It is working now. Once the fibre washers arrived I’ll try again. I read online that motherboard screws’ head should not be wider than a certain size. These washers definitely are wider. At the moment I’m hoping that’s the case and the fibre washers will solve the problem. I really don’t want to spend days trying to figure this out. I’m…[Read more]

It’s working for now. The motherboard is just laying flat in the case not attached at all. The fibre washers should be delivered tomorrow by Amazon. I just hope they are not conductive.

can’t be distortion, it’s all lined up perfectly with perfect spacing. can’t short the screws either, it’s just plywood. when I say tight I mean the washer and nut on both sides of the hole sandwiching the circuit board. I’m ordering some fibre washers for insulation and I won’t tighten the nuts as much. but until then I’ll try running it with the…[Read more]

I disconnected everything but ram and cpu. no change. then I removed the motherboard from the plywood and removed the screws going through it. now it is powering up with just ram and cpu. so that seems to indicate that the screws are causing the problem. but I had them in when I did the test last time. the only difference this time I had them…[Read more]

finished fitting the fan and filter and put it all together but it is not working… the leds are lit but when I press the power button it just gets a little burst of energy to the fans and goes still. any ideas what I could have done wrong? it worked last time I had it all connected. I hope I have not killed it.

I like the frame idea. I’ll staple it first then see if it worth the effort putting a frame on it. Though I don’t have a staple gun, bought some U shaped staples and will try hammering them in.

Looking for ideas to attach those mesh pieces to the board. Glue as I planned won’t work as they are twisted and wont stay flush with the case. How else can they be fastened in such a way so it won’t look horrible as this is the side that will be facing the room?

Also looking for good ideas how to hang that box on the wall easily.

  • Not too bad over here. I think the wind is helping a lot. But it’s meant to be 29 tomorrow  :*(   I hope I’ll be done at  work by midday so I can head straight for the beach and have a nice soak in the sea.

The SSD I bought a few years ago did come in a box big enough for a medium size computer case  :D  But the case fan box I received yesterday was a tad too small for a computer case. Just a tad :D

I don’t know what kind of PC it is but regardless personally I would take it all apart and sell every component and the case separately. You should get more money that way.

Alright, I’ve just put this thing together and it’s working. Typing this on it now.

No DVD drive to keep things simple. It can always be connected temporarily if needed. The PSU and the SSDs will be held in place by some double-sided foam-tape.

All that’s left to do is to figure out how to fit a fan, power switch and some sort of mounting…[Read more]
